The Nelson region is one of the top destinations for travellers to New Zealand. Situated in the North Western tip of the South Island, it is surrounded by sheltering mountain ranges, giving a Mediterranean–type climate with the highest sunshine hours in New Zealand.
Nelson is home to three of the most beautiful National Parks in the country, pure rivers, enchanting countryside and some of the finest beaches in the world. A marine and earthy wonderland is crowded into Tasman Bay and its environs – you can take a stroll along the Boulder Bank – created from erosion of nearby sea cliffs and shaped by the tide, it spans over 13kms and is one of only 2 such reefs in the world.
The city is famous for its creativity, and is filled with many working artists, crafts–people and world–class galleries. The vibrant Saturday Market is a sensual onslaught of music, art, tasty multi–cultural foods, and a plentiful array of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables. Dine in one of the many relaxed indoor, outdoor cafes and restaurants. Opera, ballet, jazz, the arts – Nelson almost always has a festival happening.
